New Years Waves!

December 31, 2008

Today’s surf report courtesy of www.elders.com.au:

1 1/2 stars: Easing ESE swell to 2ft. Light SE winds early turning light/mod NE in the a’noon.

Today’s Diggers Beach surf report courtesy of Kathryn:

5 stars!! Well it was 5 stars Kathryn style! They must have been 2 m high if not more – well and truly doubling my height anyway and rather scary at times. The kind that roll up and crash in one big boom carrying you along, dumping you half the time, but absolutely exhilerating!  Had me puffing for my asthma meds only 3 waves in! Today’s surfing was the perfect way to finish off this fabulous year.

I think I’ll be going back to Diggers tomorrow – have found new more exciting perfect-waves-surfing-spot!!

I wanted to find a picture of what the waves looked like today. They pretty much looked like this one:  http://www.balisurfingcamp.com/padangpics/Balangan1.jpg

Happy new years everyone!

Christmas Day

December 25, 2008

Christmas Day turned out to be one of the best I’ve had, particularly as a couple or family with children. Our day included:

  • Kids opening pressies at 9am
  • Joined by my 86 year old Grandma unexpectedly, as she rarely leaves the house as she isn’t very mobile – the sheer joy on her face made my Christmas Day special
  • BBQ with the girls – washed down with Nana’s gingerbread cookies
  • Visit to the park and beach
  • A 4pm bodyboard by yours truly!
  • Charli & Daddy off for a swim

In all it was such a complete and perfect day! The children loved their presents – the star of the day was definitely Charlotte who shined in her new Krickets dress of the Jardin range from the Charlipop site. Poppy also wore a Krickets dress ;) One thing is for sure, we adore this beach lifestyle and we’re making the most of every holiday moment we have enjoying the sunshine and glorious beaches of the Coffs Harbour coast!

We hope your Christmas was just as relaxing and enjoyable! Feel free to add comments about your favourite part of your Christmas this year!

Here is a quick glance at today’s pics. Click on each to view each photo and read about its importance to our day!

Thanks for taking to the time to view our memorable Christmas Day!!

Christmas Waves

December 25, 2008

I managed a bodyboard late afternoon. Forecast according to Elders weather was 1 1/2 out of 5 stars see Elders which was pretty much how the waves were! I still hang out with the red & yellow flags, and where they were placed today was a massive rip, which meant you couldn’t go past a certain point and the waves were pretty small. Though still a refreshing way to end a fabulous Christmas day. Talking to the lifeguards, they had to rescue 10 people out of the rip today who had started to panic. Though being caught in a rip doesn’t worry me; I learnt a long time ago eventually the rip ends and then it is easy to wash back into shore. The problem is when people panic and don’t understand how rips work. Of course I’m still learning myself!

TODAY I LEARNT: How STRONG a rip can be! I watched several very healthy looking people in their 20’s or 30’s easily washed into the rip - they all made it back to shore themself though with a struggle!

If anyone has questions about why I love the ocean, the waves, the beach, the following photos defines how I feel. This was taken on our park/beach trip today only 5 minutes away. You will see more photos listed in another post :)

Introducing Surfer Mum!

December 24, 2008

Several times a week now, you will find me at some of the MOST beautiful beaches in the world! Our family recently moved to the Coffs Harbour coast and we are LOVING the climate and most of all the sand and sea! As a young child my Dad would take us to a different beach almost every weekend, where I learnt to bodyboard and I developed a love for the beach. Visiting my Dad who also lives in Coffs Harbour, up until my mid twenties you could still find me bodyboarding regularly at Diggers Beach whilst on holidays. After a short break to have children and regain some confidence, I am back to what I love most! And to make it even better, I can now go whenever I like!!

I’m certainly not the greatest surfer in the world, or bodyboarder for that matter. However the beach is the one place in the world that takes me away, and there’s nothing better than riding a wave into shore. My new years resolution is to learn to surf, and to learn as much as I can about the ocean! So I thought I’d share my journey with you.

I hope you will join me on my beach-bodyboarding and one day surfing adventures!! In the meantime, I’d like to introduce you to my beautiful children, who one day I’m sure will be budding surfers too!

Of course I should mention the beautiful Osh Kosh bathers and rash shirt are courtesy of Charlipop Kids designer, and Poppy’s shorts by Ouch :-)

Welcome!
